Grocery shopping

My weekly trip to Super Wal Mart has become intolerable so it's time to shop around for a new grocery store. Love Harris Teeter, but it's just too expensive. Food Lion is ok, nothing to write home about and their produce isn't usually too great. BiLo was my favorite in SC, but there aren't many stores around here and it's changed ownership anyway. Today I tried Target...much better than Wal Mart, but again, the prices are much higher. I buy pretty basic stuff and it probably cost 10-15% more at Target than Wal Mart. I just don't know if the great selection and variety, cleaner store, buggy that actually rolls, associates that look like they bathed before coming to work, fewer screaming children with not-as-scary parents and mega cute clothes & home deco are worth the extra money. Gees, wish I wasn't so 'frugal', it'd be a no-brainer. Wonderful Wednesday...three down & two to go!

  1. Oh, what a dilemna!! I used to LOVE grocery shopping, and now I no longer love it. thankfully I do have a good choice of grocery stores; gotta say that Kroger and Texas owned HEB are the best.
Hope you find a good substitute!

  2. I simply cannot do the Wal Mart thing. Just can't do it . . . every single time there is an experience that would frighten young children and forever scar them ;-) I use Food City. Love Kroger, but it is too far to fool with. Love Target, but I spend 100x more cause I buy everything! What to do?? xoox

  3. You know... I started doing the WM thing when I was buying diapers/formula...all that NEWBORN stuff... now it has just become one of those every week things. We have TRIED really hard to go other places, but the prices kill us. With only one income, we really can't beat WM!

However....before we moved to Concord, we shopped at Lowe's food! IT WAS AWESOME! If you ahve one of those close, you should try it out!

  4. I had a terrible experience with Walmart today!!! UGH! I emailed the customer service this afternoon- not that THEY care but it made me feel better. I am usually a no-griper person. I can tolerate alot but I am ready to never step back into walmart too.

  5. With a family of 5, we do the majority of our grocery shopping at Sams. To make it work, I really have to plan my meals & have a list. Alot of the times I end up buying the same things over & over. But my kids only want to eat the same things over & over.
Kroger is another favorite here. So is Schnuck's, but they're higher than most stores as well.

  6. I know I've been meaning to find a new grocery store. I just hate learning the new lanes.

  7. We would have to drive by three Harris Teeters to get to a WM. I know there is a huge difference in prices, but I just can't do WM. Hopefully I make up the difference in the prices by saving on gas! I have to agree with you about the employees. I hate to shop anywhere the employees give me the willies.
